Prayer Prompt / Hearing God for Decisions

Transcript

Lord, we come before you to seek your wisdom.

We declare that you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, move in our midst.

You have dominion, reign, authority, and power over all things.

We acknowledge that as your sons and daughters, that we operate in the delegated authority that you've given us through your blood.

Jesus, you said we are no longer slaves but sons, and not only sons but co-heirs with you in the heavenly places.

So as sons and daughters of the Most High King, we come before you humbly and boldly.

Lord, we're faced with a decision to be made.

And we seek your grace, your mercy, and your wisdom.

James 1, 2 through 6 says, consider it pure joys, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.

Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

That perseverance finished its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

And so Lord, as we come before you, we confess that at times we do feel like we are blown to and fro, tossed by the wind.

So Lord, we confess with our mouth the places we feel unstable.

Take a moment now to confess the places you feel are unstable.

Do you believe the word of God is true?

Just so we believe that what He is saying to us in James is true, that we may ask and receive.

We're also moving into a new season with this decision to be made.

We're at a crossroads.

Isaiah 43, 18 through 19 says this, forget the former things, do not dwell on the past.

See, I am doing a new thing.

Now it springs up.

Do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

In another part of Isaiah 61, the word says this about the coming of Jesus.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, an opening of the prison to those who are bound, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, to grant to those who mourn in Zion, to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit, that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified, that they shall build up the ancient ruins and they shall raise up the former devastations.

They shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.

So Father, we come before You to proclaim the history of our generations before us.

The word captures for us our history and wisdom for our future.

So Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we come before You and seek Your wisdom.

We come to ask.

So in the name of Jesus, we proclaim that this time of listening, this time of prayer is holy and set apart.

We declare that angels surround us, bringing heavenly protection above us, below us, in front of us, behind us, to the right and to the left.

Lord we give You thanks that You see all things, know all things, and have dominion over all things.

Holy Spirit, would You open our eyes to see, our ears to hear, our hearts to be opened and our minds to be clear.

Holy Spirit, lead us as we pray.

Holy Spirit, bring the decision forward in our mind.

Jesus we confess that we do not always see things clearly.

So we ask for Your truth, Your wisdom, and Your mercy.

Jesus, is there anything about this situation that we're missing?

Jesus, what truth do You want to reveal to us about this decision?

As James said, if we lack wisdom, we should ask.

So God, we're asking now for Your wisdom.

What wisdom do You want us to consider about this decision?

So Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You ask us to be wise, but You also want our obedience.

So as we put this decision before You, Jesus, what are You asking us to do?

Is there a clear way forward?

If so, please reveal it to us now.

What was the first thing that came to mind?

Did You resist it or receive it?

When seeking the Lord, we often ask, trust, and test.

We ask the Holy Spirit, trust the first thing we hear, and then test it.

Let's test now.

Holy Spirit, did You reveal a clear way forward?

Yes or no?

What did You hear that time?

That's what Your Spirit is revealing.

Holy Spirit, now as we pray, we ask that You continue to reveal the truth in our thinking, the truth in the decision to be made, and the voice of our Father speaking in and through You.

Holy Spirit, what are You asking us to do now?

Do not dwell on the past.

Friends, I want to bless you to move into a new season of trusting, a new season of following, a new season of obedience.

I want to bless you to consider the options, put them before the Lord, and ask simply and humbly, Father, which way are You asking me to go?

Verse 19, see, I am doing a new thing.

Now it springs up, do You not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You give us beauty for ashes.

You are with us in the difficult decisions.

You are there.

You are there.

You are there.

We are reminded in Psalm 139 about the fullness of Your presence.

Psalm 139, verse 7 says, where shall I go from Your Spirit, or where shall I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, You are there.

If I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.

Father, we humbly request, would You reveal for us now where is Your right hand holding us in this decision to be made?

Friends, I invite you to receive this blessing.

I bless you in the name of Jesus to move into the future way of doing things, to forget the things of the past.

And as James reminded you, I bless you to consider it joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face these trials.

I bless you that as you are being tested, I bless your faith will rise up.

I bless you to ask and to seek and to know and to hear and to receive.

I bless you to walk in faith.

I bless you that the full power of the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is currently at work in you.

And I bless you to trust the work of the Spirit.

I bless you to receive James's word that when you ask, you must not doubt, but believe.

I bless you with belief.

And in the name of Jesus, I cast out all doubt.

We cast out fear.

We cast out hesitation.

We cast out faithlessness and we cast out our flesh that you Lord, Jesus might renew us and refresh us today.

And that by the power of your blood and the fullness of your spirit, that we might walk up rightly, confidently, and boldly in your presence.

We receive the blessing of your grace.

We receive the blessing of your mercy and we receive the blessing of new life in Christ.

Friends I bless you to move forward today to repeat this exercise on your own as many times as required that you are tuning in, receiving, believing, and moving forward in faith.

The good father is speaking to you and through you through the power of his spirit.

Receive.

Believe.

As we close, we'll close with Psalm 139, 23 and 24.

Search me O God and know my heart.

Try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any grievous way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

Our son, Holy Spirit, we come humbly and boldly before you as sons and daughters to seek this wisdom.

We've heard your voice and now we accept the call.

We accept the challenge to step forward in the decision to be made.

Thank you for revealing the truth.

Thank you for your presence and thank you for the life that you make possible.

We pray all this in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
